Leading housing association celebrates a major new partnership

Despite the cost-of-living crisis continuing to bite, a leading housing association has built up its hopes to construct more properties and secure a leading landlord position.

Although many property firms and landlords have struggled this year, Sovereign, a leading housing association in the south, have successfully built over 700 homes this financial year – 339 in the first quarter and 418 in the second.

Founded in 1989, Sovereign now manages over 61,000 homes and has become focused on providing sustainable, affordable properties, which have been distributed to nearly 140,000 customers.

As a result of their outstanding achievements, the organisation is now celebrating its successful application to join Homes England’s Delivery Partner Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) for large sites. DPS is a list of preferred developers, and house-builders on the list are able to bid on land that’s owned by the government’s housing delivery agency.

The decision for Sovereign to join DPS paves the way for the association to bid on larger sites, granting them the ability to produce more properties. Areas of land that are currently available to bid on have the potential to build 70 new homes.

As Sovereign are now a member of DPS, it also fits with their goal of becoming a leading landlord in the south of England.

Tom Titherington, Chief Investment and Development Officer at Sovereign, said: ‘The cost-of-living crisis has highlighted why we need more affordable homes in this country – and I’m delighted that we have been awarded large site status by Homes England.

‘With our A+ credit rating recently reaffirmed and more unit completions, this is another example of our ability to achieve positive outcomes. It’s a clear sign of confidence in our ability to deliver large scale projects, at a time of real need.’
