Developers have proposed plans to create thousands of new homes, a school and shops to a local authority in the east midlands county.
Bloor Homes, Jelson Homes and Barwood Land have collectively submitted the proposals for the project which would take place on land off Clockers Way in Earl Shilton in Leicestershire.
The proposals include plans for an additional 500 new homes which come on top of a plan to build 1,500 properties and an employment site, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS). An application for the first 1,000 homes was submitted last year.
Currently, Hinckley and Bosworth Council are yet to make a decision on the proposal. However, both North Warwickshire and Nuneaton AND Bedworth Borough Councils, which neighbour the proposed development, have contacted Hinkley and Bosworth to say they have no objections to the latest application.
Alongside creating new homes, shops and a school, the application also outlines details to construct two new accesses to the site from Mill Lane and Astley Road. Planning documents reveal the proposed houses would mostly be between two and two-and-a-half storeys, and a range of sizes from one-bedroom to four or five-beds.
The planning application claims: ‘As well as providing new market [price] and affordable homes, employment space and community facilities including public open space, sports pitches and a school, the proposed development allows growth in the population of Earl Shilton, bringing the potential for increased footfall to shops and businesses already based in the town.’
In order for the project to go ahead should it receive the authorities approval, developers have also announced that improvements would be made to the Weaver’s Springs sports pitches and existing pedestrian and cycle routes would be extended to allow people to travel between the town centre and the new development.
Known as the 106 agreement, developers have to provide funding towards community facilities if the proposals go ahead.
The previous application stated there would be 13 acres of employment space at the new site, creating an estimated 560 jobs. The latest application for the additional homes can be viewed on Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s planning portal and comments and objections can be made until the end of the month.
