Residents are moving into 17 new council homes in Basford, Nottingham, after the completion of construction.
The development consists of five two-bed houses and 12 one-bed apartments, and all the housing has gone to local people on the Council’s housing waiting list.
These homes are the latest of the Building a Better Nottingham developments in the North of the city, which have so far delivered almost 600 new council homes for local people.
Nottingham City Homes built and will manage the homes on behalf of Nottingham City Council.
Cllr Linda Woodings, portfolio holder for planning, housing and heritage at Nottingham City Council, said: ‘Nottingham needs a variety of different types of housing. The site at Daybrook Mews has provided new, energy efficient, social homes, which are ideal for small families, couples and single people.
‘As well as helping to regenerate sites which are no longer it for purpose, we are helping to provide new homes for affordable rent, which will help meet the needs of local people waiting for a home. We hope the new residents at Daybrook Mews will be very happy in their new homes.’
Nick Murphy, Chief Executive for Nottingham City Homes, added: ‘I am proud to say we have built really high quality affordable homes for people in Basford. These homes are safe, warm and energy efficient and residents have already told us they love them and can’t wait to spend their first Christmas in their new homes.’
In related news, keyworkers in Derbyshire are the first to benefit from the government’s First Homes scheme, which offers homes at a discount of at least 30% of the market price to local first-time buyers and keyworkers.
In addition, the government has announced that 1,500 First Homes will be built in over 100 locations across England by March 2023 following successful bidding by housebuilders.
