Sovereign Housing Association has helped develop and welcome residents into affordable homes at Horlicks Quarter in Slough.
During the difficult financial period, Sovereign has committed to delivering affordable housing in Slough and will, once completed, offer 102 rented properties and 50 shared ownership homes.
The scheme is being led by Slough Borough Council, construction firm Berkeley as well as Sovereign.
Launched in 2020, work started to build over 1,000 homes in the Berkshire town, with 152 people now collecting their keys.
Houses in Slough will be located at Horlicks Quarter, which has been converted from a former factory that closed in 2018.
Mark Washer, CEO at Sovereign said: ‘We are delighted to see the first handover of new homes at the Horlicks Quarter.
‘With demand for good quality, affordable social housing on the rise, I’m pleased to see our development strategy going some way to address the needs of local communities.
‘Our work at the Horlicks Quarter shows just how much can be achieved when housing providers step forward and play a positive role in the regeneration of our towns and high streets.’
The new homes are also part of Slough’s commitment towards a regeneration programme with plans already approved from Slough central to improve their high street and shopping centres with proposals for new leisure and retail outlets.
As well as the new homes, the finished development will feature public spaces, gardens and a central square at Clocktower Place for community activities including a nursey and a proposed café.
Slough’s latest development is also set to take a sustainable approach with an aim of planting more trees and plants around the area.
Ben Annett, Sales and Marketing Director at Berkeley Homes said: ‘We are delighted to be working in partnership with Sovereign and Slough Borough Council to deliver the first 152 affordable homes at Horlicks Quarter.
‘Sovereign’s new residents will join our first occupants in Darjeeling & Artesian House, creating the start of a wonderful new community – with Aquifer Gardens now open to create a central hub within the development for everyone to enjoy.’
Sovereign’s next phase of rented homes to open at Horlick’s Quarter will be available from Mid November 2022.
